Donate to help the University of Edinburgh FND research team. Your donation will directly support vital research, raise awareness of FND among health professionals, and help maintain and develop self-help materials for patients, including this website, the neurosymptoms.org FND Guide.
You can make a regular or single gift donation to support the work of the research group by using our new online giving portal.
The team at the University of Edinburgh are one of the leading FND research groups in the world. Prof Jon Stone and Prof Alan Carson started working in FND in the mid 1990s at a time when it was invisible in text books and research.
They have published over 400 scientific articles on FND, they co-founded the international FND Society with Prof Mark Hallett in 2019 and have worked with numerous FND patient-led organisations, and other international organisations to improve knowledge and healthcare professional practice in FND.
They have been joined by Dr Ingrid Hoeritzauer and Dr Laura McWhirter in recent years as co-principals. You can read more about the work of the research group in our research reports below.

You can read more about the group’s work in our reports from 2020 and 2022. A new report will be completed at the end of 2025
Are you considering leaving a legacy to the Neurosymptoms in your will? A legacy, in most instances, is tax-free and will reduce any inheritance tax burden on your estate.
Find out more on the legacy pages of the University of Edinburgh website.
We recommend that you seek advice from a solicitor before you make or update your will.
Thank you so much for your kind donation! For more information about the Edinburgh FND research group:
Unfortunately, Professor Stone can’t help with clinical questions. He does not have a private practice and only sees NHS patients from Edinburgh. He cannot see NHS patients at all from outside Scotland, and only rarely sees NHS patients referred from outside Edinburgh when referred by other neurologists from Scotland with very specific queries.
Thank you
Prof Jon Stone, Professor of Neurology, University of Edinburgh
We will be re-directing you to the University of Edinburgh’s donate page, which enable donations in a secure manner on our behalf. We use donations for keeping the site running and further FND research.
